Lakeview Christian Academy punched its ticket for a second straight Minnesota Class A boys basketball state tournament appearance with an 83-58, workmanlike victory over Cherry in the Section 7A championship game Friday night at UMD.
Anders Broman, Minnesota’s all-time career scoring leader, had a game-high 43 points for the Lions (20-10), who will face a yet-to-be-determined opponent Thursday at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

Alex Illikainen, a 6-foot-9 super-sophomore and rising Division I top prospect, scored 24 points and had 16 rebounds as the Thunderhawks outlasted the pesky Lumberjacks Friday night at Duluth Denfeld. Justin Gill added 17 points and A.J. Watland 15 for Grand Rapids (20-9). Dillon Johnson and Adam Laine had 12 points apiece for Cloquet (19-10).
Saints win twice in Florida
St. Scholastica won a baseball split-doubleheader Friday in Ft. Pierce, Fla., blasting Hilbert College (N.Y.) 13-3 in seven innings and Bridgewater State University (Mass.) 6-1.
Andy Davis threw three scoreless innings in the nightcap, and Padraic Getchell recorded his first collegiate victory with four strong innings of relief.
Jordan O’Neill went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored for the Saints (6-3), who wrap up a Florida spring trip today against Richard Stockton (N.J.) in a doubleheader in Vero Beach.
