Firefighters snuff out kitchen fire

DuluthFireDeptLogoDuluth firefighters quickly extinguished a second floor kitchen fire Wednesday afternoon at a home located at 619 East 5th Street.

Crews responded from HQ and the Nos. 2 and 4 stations and remained on the scene for over an hour.

The homeowners awoke to the smell of smoke, and tried to extinguish the fire with a bucket of water. They quickly evacuated the building and waited outside until firefighters arrived. A cat and a dog were rescued and are recovering after receiving medical attention on scene.

Damage to structure and contents is estimated at $35,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s office.
