Eddy Morgan has resigned as head baseball coach at UW-Superior, the school’s athletic department announced in an online story and press release today.

Morgan, who has been with the Yellowjackets for seven seasons, is leaving the school to become the head baseball coach at Concordia University Wisconsin, a Division III institution located in Mequon, Wis. on Lake Michigan, just outside Milwaukee.

“It is just an opportunity that is too good for me to pass up. The administration at Concordia has made a major commitment to its athletic programs, not just to baseball and they want to take that next step and compete for national championships,” Morgan said. “They’re transitioning to full-time head coaches so I’ll be able to come to work every day and just worry about baseball. I will have a full-time assistant coach, I’m located in the middle of a fertile baseball recruiting area and I get to coach every day in the best stadium in Division III (Kapco Park). There is every opportunity to build a winning tradition here and I’m looking forward to the challenge at Concordia.”

Coincidentally, Morgan’s new home field, Kapco Park, is also the home of the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League. Last year Morgan was a coach for the Chinooks’ inaugural season and this year he is in his first year as the team’s manager.

Morgan will take over the Falcon baseball program from Dr. Val Keiper, who started the program in the 1980s and held the position for 30 seasons. Keiper will remain on as a member of Morgan’s coaching staff while continuing his teaching duties at Concordia.

“I’ve had the chance to talk to Val about things and we are on the same page. It could be a little strange at first, but in a short time we will get comfortable working together,” Morgan said.

Morgan just completed his seventh season at UW-Superior where he compiled an overall record of 105-169 and WIAC record of 47-121. Morgan won his 100th game as head coach at UW-Superior on April 17, 2013 and leaves as the program’s all-time wins leader.

Morgan’s resignation as head coach, as well as admissions counselor at UW-Superior, will be effective as of June 14, 2013. A search for Morgan’s replacement will begin immediately.
